Police Explorers are youths 14-21 years of age, who are of good moral character, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and have an interest in Law Enforcement. Police Exploring is a division of the Boy Scouts of America and promotes character development, citizenship, training and personal fitness through Law Enforcement training and fun community service.
Orange City Police Explorers meet every Thursday evening from 6:00-7:00 PM, at the OCPD/OCFD Training room ( 215 N Holly Ave, the last door closest to University Av). During this time, Explorers are exposed to safe, structured Law Enforcement training, to include classroom principles and hands-on practice on the following topics:
• Crime Prevention
• Accident Investigation
• Crime Scene Investigations
• Traffic Stops
• First Aid
• Patrol Procedures
• Search and Arrest
• Bomb Threats
Explorers are mentored by full-time police officers, called advisors, who have many years of experience. There is a chain-of-command within the post, in which Explorers, who demonstrate competence and maturity, can attain leadership roles.
The Police Explorer Post is a non-profit organization and do fund raising to participate in many events including Parades, Manatee Festival, Fireworks and Fun, National Night Out, all City Parades. Explorers do not have actual Police Powers of Arrest!!!
Parental participation is encouraged!!!
