The City of Orange City will be setting a millage rate and adopting a budget for Fiscal Year 2010/2011 which begins on October 1, 2010. Two workshops will be held to discuss the budget: Monday August 23rd and Monday August 30th (if needed). The workshops will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 201 N. Holly Avenue. These meetings are open to the public.

The budget workshops will be followed by two public hearings during the adoption process for the budget and millage rate. These will take place on Wednesday, September 15th and Tuesday, September 28th. Both meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The City is proud of its small town ambiance, while offering all the amenities necessary for today’s fast-paced lifestyle. Residents are fortunate to have some of the safest and most affordable neighborhoods in Volusia County. One can choose to live in a single-family home, manufactured home, condominiums or even rental apartments.

Because of its desirable location in Volusia County, several gated communities are being developed in the area. Within the City of Orange City there are many homes that are graced with medium and estate-sized lots. These lots have many large trees, which helped Orange City to become designated as “Tree City USA.”

Notice of Meeting

Members of the Orange City Council will meet on Monday, August 30, 2010 with Larry Adams of ACI. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss Economic Drivers and Transportation Oriented Design (TOD) as it relates to commuter rail. The meeting will be at 11:00 a.m. in the downstairs conference room at City Hall, 205 E. Graves Avenue, Orange City. Please call 386/775-5408 for further information.

Important Safety Notice

Public schools will reopen throughout Volusia County on Monday, August 16th. The safety of our children is our top priority. Please obey all traffic laws. The police department will maintain a high profile in all our school zones to protect children traveling to and from school.

Notice of Reports

The City Council conducted its annual strategic planning workshop in May 2010. Prior to the workshop, a number of citizens were invited to attend a session identified as “Community Conversations” to share their thoughts on the future direction of the City. This was followed by an all-day workshop of the Council and Department Heads during which goals for Fiscal Year 2010/2011 were decided. The workshops were facilitated by Ms. Marilyn Crotty of the Florida Institute of Government. The resulting reports from these two workshops can be viewed by clicking on the links below.
